In the garden now Go ahead and put down grass seed for a dormant seed at this time. Do continue to apply liquid animal repellents when temps are above freezing. Wrap your trees if you haven’t already. Empty water from concrete statuary and haul it inside or cover it for winter. Take any clay birdbaths and pots indoors for winter to prevent damage. Take advantage of the good weather and have fun decorating with fresh greens. As I write this Jesse is organizing all of the fresh evergreens and twiggy things to use in decorations. Good news: Most of these items have not increased in price.
Our decorated spruce top pots are ready to bring instant and long-lasting color to your doorstep. On Saturday, Nov. 12 at 10:30am Greenhouse Manager Jesse Miller is leading a demonstration on how to use spruce tops in pots and how to put your personal touch on these fun decorations. This class is free but do call us (507-388-4877) if you’re coming so we can save you a seat. After the class, you are welcome to purchase a finished spruce top pot or you may make your own from scratch. We will clean up the mess! |
Caring Rose Week Starts Friday
Order Fresh Flowers for Thanksgiving
I usually wait until after Christmas to grow mine so I can enjoy something blooming in the middle of winter. At left, amaryllis are the large, red flowered bulbs and the paperwhites are the white clusters. Now, some people think the fragrance of paperwhites is unpleasant. You can combat that by growing them in an airy room or inside a tall glass container. As a bonus, with a little effort you can keep your amaryllis bulb and have it bloom for you year after year. Here are some guidelines. |

Eight community organizations will decorate Christmas trees here at the store in a friendly competition. Drummers will award cash prizes to the first, second and third place winners. The winners are determined by your votes and contributions. Everyone can vote every day! You are allowed one ballot per day but you can contribute as much as you want to the kitty for each tree. The final count of dollars and votes will determine the winner. To sweeten the deal, Pioneer Bank will match donations to each group up to $50 per tree. So, vote early and often!
