Enjoy Gardening in Winter with Classes at Drummers
We’ve devoted two days to Winter Pick-Me-Up gardening classes. You’re invited to join us for these seven classes focusing first on indoor gardening on Saturday, Jan. 28 and then on outdoor gardening on Saturday, Feb. 4. Click on the image above for a viewable and printable class schedule.
Please call us at 507-388-4877 to register for these classes because class size is limited. If you wish, you may email me, sarahm@drummersgardencenter.com, to register. I will need your name and telephone number in order to take your registration. Three of the classes are a Make & Take project so payment will be due at the time of the class.
On Saturday, Jan. 28…
For indoor enthusiasts we have a Make & Take Terrarium class and two Make & Take Miniature Gardening classes plus a class on learning the special ins and outs of seed starting.
On Saturday, Feb. 4….
Landscape Design Basics will help you organize your thoughts on paper and transform your yard into an attractive and useable space. Discover The New Stars of 2012 and Other Shining Plants for your garden. Finally, now that it’s time to prune many trees and shrubs, learn how to do it best and how to save overgrown shrubs.
See you then!

In the garden now
Continue to scout your yard and plants
When you have the chance, get out and check on your landscape.
If you see evidence that rabbits or deer have been eating bark on your trees or shrubs, be sure to apply repellents. You may choose spray on liquids if the temperatures are above 32 degrees. If not, you can use granular repellents.
If tree wrap is sagging or missing, fix or replace it.
Water your plants if your ground is not frozen. I know that’s not likely at this point but some protected areas may not be frozen.
Mulch new or tender plants if you haven’t been able to do so by now.
If your trees, shrubs or fruit plants have budded & then frozen
We have had a number of you report that you’ve seen some plants with swelling buds or that the buds have begun to leaf out because of the mild weather. There’s nothing you can do about this. Most of your plants will have a second set of buds. Plants that are more well established will have a better chance of withstanding this type of pressure. If the weather continues to be dry, be ready to water as soon as the ground is thawed.
Find something cool in our clearance sale
We have had to make room for new merchandise and have a variety of items including pots, statuary and brass pond spitters at clearance prices. Check it out for your garden.
Make a date with our designer for a landscape plan
This is the perfect time to meet with Johanna. She’ll consult with you on any aspect of landscaping from plant selection and care to full landscape design.
Seeds and seed starting supplies
We have three brands of seeds on the floor and are waiting for four more lines to arrive. Also shop our comprehensive line of seed starting supplies. So come in and dream of your new garden.
